Narrative
A crash occurred on Solomons Island Road on Feb. 23rd which left one person unharmed, another injured, and another dead. At 3:59p.m., a 2023 Kenworth W900 dump truck struck a 2001 Dodge Dakota pick-up truck when the Dodge pulled out in front to turn left. The dump truck was unable to stop or swerve in time as it drove north on the same road. When the Dodge was hit, it was pushed into the opposite lane and was there hit by a southbound 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe. In the meantime, the dump truck was pushed through the southbound lane and into an embankment. The truck then overturned and caught on fire, killing the driver who could not escape. This victim has not been identified yet. The Dodge’s driver was John Arne Illig and he was taken to the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center for his injuries. The Hyundai’s driver was Angelina Marie Scarton, and she did not sustain any injuries. The investigation for this crash is being led by the Traffic Safety Section.
