Narrative
Two were hospitalized following a head-on crash at the intersection of Point Lookout Road and Moakley Street before 7:45 a.m. in Leonardtown on Tuesday, May 9th. According to the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, the driver of Traffic Unit 1, 28-year-old Wendy Ricardo Laurent, was traveling south on Point Lookout when for reasons unknown, crossed over the median and drove on the northbound lanes. As a result, Laurent collided head-on with the driver of Traffic Unit 2, 48-year-old Matthew Scott Dement. Laurent’s and Dement’s vehicles rotated counterclockwise, and then the driver of Traffic Unit 3, 23-year-old Justin Dominic Morgan, hit the rear of Traffic Unit 1. It is unclear if Morgan sustained severe injuries, as he refused medical care and attention at the scene. Laurent was transported by ground to a hospital and is in stable condition. Dement was airlifted to a hospital for serious, life-threatening injuries.
